Introduction
This is my favorite quote I got from someone I was trying to help out. Not even a client, just a friend of a friend I was trying to help. For this post lets call him “Sean”… which is not his real name of course!! Sean is a great example of the guy who thinks they are healthy, but are definitely not! I finally had him doing some healthy things for his body and then it happened. He went to a buddies wedding, got drunk, and over ate unhealthy food all day! Sean felt like crap the following day and then I heard the best quote I’ve ever heard. All these Healthy Foods and Supplements are making me sick!!
The Athlete/Client
I am sure a lot of trainers can relate to this situation. You tell a client to eat a certain way, and how to train! The client doesn’t listen and then when they aren’t feeling good or have an issue they come and blame you!! It’s just part of the job I guess. But technology has allowed myself to stay much more on top of my clients… especially the remote ones!
I get my clients to use food tracking apps such as My Fitness Pal to help me see what they have been eating. I also tell them to send me pics of the products they are buying and using. It always amazes me when I send a client the exact product to get and then when they send me the pic it is completely wrong? My favorite excuse is “Well the guy at the grocery store told me it was the same.” Not to sound too harsh… but what the f%ck does a random high school kid know about nutrition?? I can bet he doesn’t even what to be at his job!! So you can imagine what I am thinking when I hear someone say All these healthy foods and supplements are making me sick!
Finding the Truth
As I mentioned above the advancements in technology have helped so much with figuring out the issue of what is going on with my clients diets. Every time I hear All these healthy foods and supplements are making me sick, I first take a look at the clients food logs. In Sean’s case there were these huge gaps, primarily around lunch time! To make a long story short I eventually found out that lunch for Sean was a consistent visit to a couple fast food places next to his work! Sean decided not to log those in because they wouldn’t look good in his food log??? He finally owned up to the truth and took back his famous quote… lol!! All these healthy foods and supplements are making me sick!

Does this look like someone that you know??
Conclusion
Let’s be truthful and responsible for our health!! People tend to lie to themselves a lot when it comes to their health. In Sean’s example he was ready to blame his feeling sick on all the healthy foods and great whole food supplements I had him on! After a little digging I found out he was hiding what he was eating. The foods where so bad it was making him sick! So instead of doing what he knew was right he blamed the one thing that was helping him!! I know if sounds stupid but I hear this from people on a daily basis! The next time you hear: All these healthy foods and supplements are making me sick. Remember Sean… lol!!
